the short version

Down.Now has no accounts and no sign-up. We set no tracking cookies, show no ads, and sell no data. Outage reports are anonymous — we never ask who you are.

when you submit a report

A report records the service, the problem type you picked, a timestamp, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and a browser-generated identifier. The IP and identifier exist to block duplicate submissions and to derive the approximate (city-level) location that powers the outage map; neither is ever displayed. Comments you post are public. Individual report rows are deleted after at most five years; aggregated incident statistics (counts, charts, records) are permanent and contain nothing personal.

analytics

We measure traffic with Umami and Cloudflare Web Analytics. Both are cookie-free and aggregate-only: no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting of individuals, no personal profiles.

infrastructure

The site runs on Amazon Web Services behind the Cloudflare network. Like nearly every website, the infrastructure keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, requested page, time) for security and debugging.

your rights

Because reports carry no name, email, or account, we usually cannot connect stored data to a specific person. If you have a question or want data associated with your IP removed, email press@down.now and we'll do what we can. EU/EEA residents have the GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, and objection.

If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with an updated effective date.
